Diff Checker tool

About this tool

A diff checker compares two blocks of text and marks what was added or removed. Choose line comparison for files and code, word comparison for natural text, or character comparison for small exact edits. Addition and deletion counts summarize the amount of change without making you count highlighted sections manually.

Both versions remain in your browser, are never uploaded, and disappear after you close the tab. Use split view to place originals and revisions side by side, or unified view to read changes in one stream. Ignore case or whitespace when capitalization and spacing should not count as meaningful differences.

How to use the Diff Checker

  1. 1Paste the original text into the left comparison editor.
  2. 2Paste the revised text into the right comparison editor.
  3. 3Select line, word, or character matching for the material.
  4. 4Toggle case and whitespace handling to remove irrelevant differences.
  5. 5Review split or unified output and the addition and deletion totals.

Frequently asked questions

Should I compare by lines, words, or characters?

Use lines for source files or documents, words for rewritten natural text, and characters when a small spelling or punctuation change matters.

What does ignore whitespace do in a diff?

It prevents spacing changes from being reported as meaningful differences. This helps when indentation changed but content did not.

How is split view different from unified view?

Split view places versions in separate columns. Unified view combines removals and additions into a single sequence.

Can the checker ignore capitalization changes?

Yes. Enable ignore case when uppercase and lowercase differences should be treated as equal.

Are the compared documents uploaded?

No. Comparison happens locally in your current tab, and neither version is kept after you close it.
